Alfred Hitchcocks Mystery Magazine is a monthly publication, named after the famous suspense film director Alfred Hitchcock, which features seven short mystery stories and once classic, brought back from the history to leave you shivering in suspense. This publication has had a tremendous following of crime/detective fiction fans since 1956. 2006 saw the publication celebrate its fiftieth birthday with the release of the compilation ‘Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine Presents Fifty Years of Crime and Suspense.’

Crime and Detective Fiction

Each issue contains seven short mystery stories of varying length – some short stories and some novellas- with varying themes ranging from the classic whodunit to the electrifying suspense. As well as these original, enchanting stories, Alfred Hitchcocks Mystery Magazine is keen to give us a blast from the past. This is done in the form of a reprint of a classic crime/detective thriller from yesteryear which you may or may not have come across, but will still have you glued to the magazine, unable to put it down!

As well as the short stories of new and old times, each issues has plenty more to offer. The monthly publication has a Mysterious Photo contest where readers can submit a 250-word story inspired by a thought-provoking, imaginative photograph – the story picked by the editors is published in an upcoming issue. You’ll also find puzzles which are challenging and interesting, of course with a mystery theme and for the bookworm – expert book reviews which are of interest to the mystery fan. The magazine also features the aptly named ‘reel crime’ which deals with all film and television aspects of detective/crime and mystery.

Crime and Detective Authors

You’ll find the work of some of the most renowned mystery, detective and crime writers around published every week. Some of the famous names to have graced this publication are crime novelists including Robert Bloch, Lawrence Block, G. K. Chesterton, Ron Goulart, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Donald E. Westlake. Short story specialists including John H. Dirckx, Kenneth Gavrell, Edward D. Hoch, Jack Ritchie, and Stephen Wasylyk have also graced the avid readers with their presence. This magazine also gives the opportunity to budding writers as a place to get their work seen and a platform to raise awareness for their writing skills; Holmes on the Range series author Steve Hockensmith first started out with this very magazine.
